SANTELMO, the innovative startup founded by Michele Chierici and Marta Ghirardelli, respectively a marine engineer and an architect, is poised to revolutionize the yachting world with a range of groundbreaking models built from aluminium alloy and powered by green hydrogen, on which over 90% of the materials are reusable.

For the brand's debut, SANTELMO chose the Fuorisalone in Milan, from April 17 to 23, to which it will be taking a highly original installation. Featuring the scale model of a yacht, the work will be hosted in the showroom of Richard J. Brown, the luxury denim brand known for its focus on detail both in sourcing the best materials and in garment making. With SANTELMO, the brand shares a sustainable approach that also seeks to instil a sense of responsibility on sustainability issues across the supply chain and with consumers.

"We realized that the market was lacking a range of yachts that are truly sustainable for both the environment and for operators," explained the two founders of the startup about their project. "We aim to offer the best performing eco-sustainable yachts on the market, combining state-of-the-art technology with the highest levels of environmental and social sustainability, from construction and use through to end-of-life disposal.

The construction process will also be made more efficient by avoiding road transport. The hull, deck and superstructure will be built by Bloemsma, a well-known Dutch yard, and moved by ship to Sardinia, where the yachts will be fitted out by Olbia Boat Service and then delivered to their owners by sea."

The startup is exploring new hydrogen sourcing solutions and working with its partners to build a network of fuelling stations in major Mediterranean and North European ports. Hofer Powertrain, a Germany-based supplier of propulsion systems, proved to be the ideal partner to produce the fuel cells for the new yachts.

As can be seen, SANTELMO intends to usher in a new era for yachting by offering a long-range cruising experience that is conducive to contemplation and the exploration of normally inaccessible places. Aesthetically, the boats are characterized by their bold lines and an immediately recognizable design that favours simple shapes and contemporary styling.

The first model, the F50P, a 15-metre yacht with a layout that caters to the growing desire for deeper contact with nature, will be presented in September 2024. There was a special focus on the design of the spacious outdoor areas and on the helm station, which guarantees a wide field of vision and simple handling. The next models in this first line will have different lengths and interior layouts that can be adapted to meet owners' needs.

The Weaving of Details

'The Weaving of Details' is the installation designed by SANTELMO for the 2023 Fuorisalone di Milano, scheduled for April 17 to 23, and it will be exhibited at the showroom of the luxury made-in-Italy clothing brand.

The protagonist of this work is a prototype of eco-sustainable yacht designed by Michele Chierici and Marta Ghirardelli who offer the market an unprecedented line of boats: built from aluminium alloy, equipped with fuel cell propulsion powered by green hydrogen, and made up of reusable materials for over 90%.

The installation will be enveloped in scents of juniper and myrtle that evoke Sardinia, sensorially awakening memories of sea and nature, while plays of light and reflections of the boat suggest its preciousness.

Visitors can catch a glimpse of the boat through a weave of threads both to maintain that halo of mystery before its official presentation and to communicate the idea that a SANTELMO yacht combines many innovative solutions and technologies that give life to something unique. From afar, the yacht will be perceived only as a silhouette that becomes more and more defined as you approach it until it is visible in its entirety, to emphasize that the strength of SANTELMO products is manifested in the details.
