The groundbreaking new Excess 14 Catamaran

by Flagstaff Marine 6 Mar 2023 00:56 PST

Excess Catamarans, from Groupe Beneteau, are uniquely positioned and designed to bring back the experience of real sailing into a catamaran whilst at the same time offering all the creature comforts and spacious living you would expect in a multihull.

In the new Excess Catamarans, you will discover some key differentials compared with the current traditional cruising multihull offerings, giving the new range a strong personality of its own:

  • Emphasis on the key ratio of Sail area to Displacement - to deliver a powerful sailing experience comparable with a mono hull
  • A new hull design by VPLP with a low profile hull below water to reduce drag which broadens out above the water line to deliver increased internal volume
  • A larger, higher aspect sail plan as standard with square top mainsail and very large self-tacking jib and an option to boost your sail area a further 10% with the Pulse line
  • No flybridge, which allows for a lower boom, improving the sail plan efficiency and aspect ratio further, bringing the centre of effort lower, for a better experience through reduced pitching side to side or fore and aft. It is also much easier to zip up your lazy bag at the end of a day's sailing!
  • Steering wheels at each aft helm station. With the steering wheels connected by Dyneema directly to the rudder quadrants to deliver direct control and feel of the rudders, The aft steering stations are also great for docking and you are also a part of the action and on the same level as your guests in the cockpit.
  • Helm Biminis with optional clears to provide all weather protection.
