The 2025 Quantum Sails Melges 24 Great Lakes Cup Series kicks off in full force on May 17-18 with the highly anticipated Muskegon Spring Championship, hosted by Muskegon Yacht Club.

As the first stop in a four-regatta circuit spanning the Midwest, the series continues to be a premier destination for top-level one-design competition, camaraderie, and community.

Now in its fifth consecutive year as title sponsor, Quantum Sails remains a cornerstone of the Great Lakes Cup's continued success. Their unwavering support of the Melges 24 Class, especially in this region has elevated the standard of racing and strengthened connections throughout the fleet.

"Quantum's dedication goes well beyond logos on a banner," said U.S. Melges 24 Class President Scot Zimmerman, and owner of Team Bad Idea. "They are fully invested in the sailors, the quality of the experience, and the advancement of performance across the fleet. We're incredibly proud to have them as the title sponsor once again."

The 2025 Quantum Melges 24 Great Lakes Cup Series includes:

  • No. 1 — Muskegon Spring Championship, (May 17-18)
  • No. 2 — Helly Hansen Sailing World Regatta Series, Detroit (May 31-June 1)
  • No. 3 — Guardians of the Great Lakes, Traverse City (August 16-17)
  • No. 4 — Canadian National Championship, Ontario (September 5-7)

"We are thrilled to see the registration booming for the upcoming first event," says Scott Nixon, Quantum Sails' One Design Director. "With strong early registration for Muskegon, we're expecting a fast, fun, and competitive summer. Our local lofts are ready to support every team with top-quality service and racecourse insight. Quantum Sails has local lofts to support the events so all Melges 24 sailors can be assured to have fast and friendly sail service and repairs."

Quantum has expanded its support with on-site service and tuning assistance at every regatta, backed by loft locations in Muskegon, Detroit, and Traverse City. At each event, sailors will have access to Quantum experts for sail repairs, tuning guidance, and racecourse insights — both in-person and online through Quantum's comprehensive Melges 24 resource library.

New for 2025, the weekend begins with a free Melges 24 Best Practices Sharing Session on Friday, May 16, led by Peter McClennen and his Gamecock Sailing Team. Open to all teams, this collaborative dockside clinic offers invaluable insight into rig tuning, boat handling, and race strategy—capped off with Muskegon-style beer & brats camaraderie. It's a hands-on opportunity to learn directly from top-tier talent in the fleet. Learn more details about the Sharing Session here.

With more than 20 teams already registered, the Spring Championship is set to deliver tight, competitive racing. Defending overall and Corinthian champion Dan Berezin returns to defend his titles, while the regatta also marks Event No. 4 on the broader Melges 24 North American Sailing Series, raising the stakes for all teams.

As always, Muskegon Yacht Club promises first-class race management, scenic shoreside amenities, and top-notch hospitality. With Event Organizer and Regatta Chair Josh Wallace at the helm of the event and a loyal team of volunteers and sponsors making it happen, this spring classic is a perennial favorite for a reason.

"As the first stop on the Quantum Melges 24 Great Lakes Cup, this regatta is always such a fun and exciting way to kick off the season in the Midwest," adds Nixon. "With potentially shifty and puffy conditions, Muskegon is a 'heads-up' venue, often rewarding those Melges 24 teams that sail smart and keep their eyes out of the boat. Definitely look to connect the puffs and stay on the favored tack and gybe. Also, don't be afraid to pay attention to where the locals are on the racecourse."

Stay close to all Melges 24 Class channels as updates on the racing will be featured on the web and across social media.
