After a fabulous evening at the Salvador Carnival, the World ARC 2022-23 fleet starts today its cruising period.

The fleet will cruise the bay of Salvador with its beautiful island and small anchorages in front of waterfalls and lagoons before heading to Cabedelo for the last part of the Brazil stopover.

The Salvador stopover started with a City tour of Peolourinho on the 13th; Pelourinho was once the centre of the city's slave trade and was named after the pillory (pelourinho in Portuguese) that was used to punish slaves. Today, the neighbourhood has been revitalized and is a hub of cultural activity, attracting tourists and locals alike with its colourful streets, historic buildings, and lively atmosphere.

One of the highlights of Pelourinho is its architecture, which showcases the rich cultural heritage of the city. The neighbourhood is home to many well-preserved colonial-style buildings, including the 17th century São Francisco Church and Convent, which is considered one of the finest examples of baroque architecture in Brazil. The church is known for its ornate gilded altars, intricate carvings, and beautiful stained-glass windows. Definitely worth a visit.

Then on Thursday 16th the participants gathered on the terrace for a cocktail party hosted by terminal Nautico; everybody enjoyed the local food "Acaraje" served by a Bahiana wearing traditional dress from Salvador and some typical caipirinhas.

Also, during the evening Jopie, from Sky, passed the World ARC jacket to Richard.

To complete the stopover participants gathered for a fabulous evening at the carnival, attending the parade from a Camarote.

Camarote is a term used in Brazilian carnival to refer to a type of VIP area, usually located in a specific spot along the parade route. The Camarote chosen was an enclosed structure with that a high level of comfort, privacy, and security. There was an all inclusive food and drink service, shows restaurants and a great view of the parade from above.

Pete from Jubilate Mare" A fabulous evening! Definitely to be added as optional event in the programme! This is the real Brazil!"
