The teams for the 2023 Warren Jones International Youth Regatta settled into Perth today. The day consisted of registration, weigh-in, official practice and a welcome function at host club, Royal Perth Yacht Club.

Travelling and local teams alike spent some crucial time on the Foundation-36s in Matilda Bay. Max Paul from Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron, Braedyn Denney from Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron and Alistair Read from Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club spent their first sessions on the Foundos ahead of racing kicking off from 12pm WST this afternoon, Tuesday 31 January 2023.

All eyes were on Nick Egnot-Johnson, KNOTS Racing, from Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron (current WS rank #3) and Tom Grimes from the Crusing Yacht Club of Australia (current WS rank #22) as they put in their pre-regatta prep. These two skippers are the hot contenders for the 2023 Warren Jones Regatta title - both of them in their final eligible years for competing in the under-25 regatta.

Recently crowned 2022 World Match Racing Tour Champion Nick Egnot-Johnson's previous Warren Jones Regatta campaigns have ended in 8th in 2018, 4th in 2019 and 2nd in 2020. 2020 saw Harry Price from Cruising Yacht Club of Australia take home the title for the second time; will several time Warren Jones competitor (as skipper & crew) Tom Grimes be able to make it back-to-back #WoJo tittles for CYCA? If his form at the Colin Mullins Youth Regatta, where he took out the win with a clean, undefeated sweep, is anything to go by, then it looks like we have some hot competition on our hands...
