World Sailing sustainability lead appointed as Paris 2024 Technical Delegate

by World Sailing 26 Oct 2022 20:29 AEDT

World Sailing is delighted to announce the appointment of the federation's Head of Sustainability, Alexandra Rickham, as one of two Technical Delegates for the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Alexandra, a two-time Paralympic medallist for Great Britain in a distinguished sailing career, will work alongside Ricardo Navarro, announced in February as Technical Delegate for the event.

The 41-year-old leads on the delivery of the global governing body's strategy for sustainability.

World Sailing CEO David Graham said: "Alexandra's deep knowledge of sailing as well as her experience as an elite athlete mean she is an outstanding candidate for the role.

"Her appointment as a technical delegate for Paris 2024 is also a demonstration of our commitment to putting sustainability at the heart of our sport's most visible event."

With Alexandra joining Ricardo, World Sailing will have a 50-50 gender split in the Technical Delegate roles for the Olympics for the first time.

Alexandra said: "I am thrilled and excited to be fulfilling this important role for my sport.

"Competing at the 2008, 2012 and 2016 Paralympics was the highlight of my career as an athlete and I look forward to supporting the delivery of an event which matches the expectations of our sailors and meets our strategic commitments to sustainability as an international federation."
