A total of six Canadians, including Sail Canada Development Squad members Mac Morrin from Kingston, ON, and Michael Brodeur from Montreal, QC, will take part in the 2022 Kiteboarding World Championships, October 11-16, in Cagliari, Italy.

The event, organized by Formula Kite, the international association for Olympic Kiteboarding, will be attended by close to 160 athletes from around the world in the men's and women's classes, less than two years away from the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, where kiteboarding will premiere as a new sailing event.

At last year's World Championships, Brodeur and Morrin respectively finished 51st and 67th in Torregrande, Italy.

"These are my second World Championships and I am excited to compete against the best in the business," said Mac Morrin who, at last week's European Championships in Nafpaktos, Greece, finished 43rd out of a total of 90 athletes. "I'm hoping to improve on last year's results by building on my experience from the European Championships last week and to sail a clean, fast regatta."

On the women's side, Canada will be represented by four athletes: Emily Bugeja from Vancouver, B.C., Martyna Dakowicz from Oakville, ON, Nataliya Leshko from Toronto, ON, as well as Marie-Ève Mayrand from Calgary, AB.
