2022 NSW Youth Sail Championships wrap up

by Australian Sailing 7 Oct 2022 16:05 PDT

After a two year break, 2022 NSW Youth Sail was back on Lake Macquarie. The event began on 28th September with a three day coaching clinic, with 103 sailors and 17 coaches taking part.

Then on the October long weekend the NSW Youth Championship took place with 235 sailors, in 170 boats, of 11 classes, sailed 9 (or 10) races each on four courses over three days. A total of 101 races!

Point Wolstoncroft Sport and Rec Centre was transformed into Regatta Headquarters, with the race courses managed by three Lake Macquarie Sailing Clubs - Mannering Park ASC, South Lake Macquarie ASC and Wangi ASC. The regatta was made possible by the hard work of 85 volunteers, and the three NSW Australian Sailing staff.

NSW General Manager Emma Humphries said "After two years without being able to run this event, it's so good to see so many young sailors out enjoying sailing in one of the best places to sail in Australia. I hope they go home with great memories having learnt some new skills, made some new friendships and created some unforgetable memories. I thank all the volunteers, sailors, parents and my team Craig and Gemma for making this a successul event."
