Australian Sailing has released the 2025 update of its SAILING 2032 Strategic Plan, outlining progress across key initiatives designed to grow and support the sport nationally. The report highlights achievements across the strategic pillars of Grow and Support, as well as delivery of critical Foundation Projects.
Now in its third year of the Strategic Plan, Australian Sailing continues to partner closely with clubs, class associations, Discover Sailing Centres and volunteers to deliver ambitious goals by continuing to grow sailing by leading, inspiring and supporting sailors and their communities.
The Strategic Plan Status Report is our way of being accountable to our stakeholders on what we have promised to deliver for the growth of sailing through our Strategic Plan.
2024 saw a busy Support team visit and review 99% of our 164 Discover Sailing Centres as well as delivering Participation Workshops, Sailing Summits and enhanced resources to strengthen club capability.
The 2024 Club Survey saw engagement reach its highest levels in three years, with 47% of clubs now rating their connection to Australian Sailing as "Very" or "Extremely Engaged" - up from 36% in 2023.
In the Grow Pillar, 2024 was highlighted by the successful launch of the Officials Hub and the release of a new Pathway Framework to support sailors at every level, from grassroots to professionals. Pleasingly there was also a 16.8% increase in participation and coaching programs across clubs and associations.
Reflecting on the latest report, Australia Sailing President Shevaun Bruland said, "SAILING 2032 is a document that guides both the board and staff of Australian Sailing in what we are seeking to achieve as an organisation. On an annual basis the board conducts a strategic check-in to consider the plan and confirm that we feel we are on the right track. Our stakeholders have input into this annual process via the MYAs and RACs in each region.
"It is great to see the results of the hard work being done by the countless staff and volunteers at clubs, classes and Discover Sailing Centres across the country to ensure sailing remains relevant and accessible to all Australians. We all want to see more people on the water, in more ways, more often."
