Qatar Airways GKA Youth Kite World Cup Tarifa 2022 Tumbao, Tarifa, Spain: 8 - 11th September

After four days of varied conditions including both the famous Poniente and Levante wind directions to test the riders, the final results are in, spanning eight podiums across several age groups in both Freestyle and Strapless-Freestyle disciplines.

The winners in the Kite-Surf (Strapless Freestyle) discipline are now official GKA Youth Kite World Champions. The Freestyle riders now look towards their final event coming up at St. Pierre La Mer in France, 29 September - 02 October, to decide the championship titles.

GKA Kite-Surf World Cup Dakhla, Morocco 27 September - 2 October

If ever there was a crew of riders who are eternally hungry to compete and put on a show, it's the Kite-Surf riders of the Qatar Airways GKA Kite World Tour!

Dakhla in Morocco has staged some epic contests over the years. Keahi de Aboitiz was undefeated there for four years until Airton Cozzolino took him down and, although Airton won the event again last year, he couldn't stop Australian James Carew doing enough to win his first World Championship title right there in 2021.

Meanwhile, can Cappucine Delannoy cement her status as the strapless sensation to beat after an impressive win at the Qatar Airways GKA Big Air World Championships in Tarifa earlier this season?

West Point is a phenomenal spot for kiters who love to surf with their kites and we can't wait to bring you all the action in a fortnight's time.

Running from 27th September - 2nd October, this will be round one of the Kite-Surf discipline with the finals taking place at Taiba in Brazil in late November.

Ready to more than make up the numbers!

Approaching the event in Dakhla, there are few names that may jump out at you from the registered riders list below. Two riders deserving particular mention are the new Qatar Airways GKA Kite-Surf Youth World Champions, crowned in Tarifa at the weekend: Gabriel Benetton and Camille Losserand.

On his GKA event debut at the Big Air World Championships in Tarifa, you may remember 18 year-old Brazilian Gabriel ripped his way straight to the finals against Airton Cozzolino at his very first event. Camille also finished runner-up at that event, to Cappucine Delannoy.

Next up

Following Dakhla, the next three World Tour events of the season will be:

  • Qatar Airways GKA Freestyle World Cup in Neom, Saudi Arabia - October 19th-23rd
  • Qatar Airways GKA Freestyle World Cup in Cumbuco, Brazil - November 8th-12th
  • Qatar Airways GKA Kite-Surf World Cup in Taiba, Brazil - November 16th-20th

This will be the first appearance for a GKA event in Saudi Arabia. (In 2019, Neom hosted its first ever international beach sports event and this year the Qatar Airways GKA Freestyle World Cup is one of the featured sports for the 2022 event, alongside Super League Triathlon, beach soccer, 3x3 Super Quest Basketball and Titan World Series Cycling.
