Offshore boating sensation, Michael Guest, reveals some of his favourite Yellowfin fishing spots including Crowdy Head - famed for hooking some serious Snapper and a range of other species year-round © BRP

An icon in the fishing world, Michael Guest has leaked some of his unsung secrets to heading offshore, with nothing other than his Yellowfin plate boat in tow.

Almost born into boating with a longstanding passion since childhood, Guesty has clocked up thousands of hours on the water and taken on some of the most ruggered Australian waterways.

In turn, as the country gears up for a ripper year, Guesty is letting the country in on his favourite fishing locations, traversed in a range of Yellowfin vessels including the 7600 Southerner and 7600 Centre Console.

A partnership that dates back to the ages, Guesty has tried and tested an array of Yellowfin models, which expertly handle his fishing style due to the high-quality, strong build.

"Michael Guest was an easy fit for the Yellowfin brand, reflecting exactly what we're all about in providing a safe and unintimidating platform for all offshore boaters to enjoy, whilst continuing to invest in innovation with product enhancements directed towards customer needs and wants," Madeline Bishop, Marketing Manager said.

"It has been an exciting journey thus far and we look forward to what the future brings for the Guesty and Yellowfin relationship, but also the brand on a larger scale with Yellowfin now owned by the global leader in powersports - BRP (Bombardier Recreational Products)."

Perfected over decades of craftsmanship, first founded in 1984, Yellowfin is one of the oldest and most trusted boats in the country.

Founded off a history of ground-breaking innovation, Yellowfin boats deliver best stability and ride in class thanks to its marine core construction delivering a reinforced sub floor framework for maximum strength, technologies such as the offshore HD hull, self-draining floors, and more.

The strength in build comes from within the Gold Coast based Yellowfin factory, with every boat being handcrafted by a specialist team comprising the industry's best plate boat builders and welders.

A testament to the brand reputation as one of the best plate boats on the market, Yellowfin has been afoot countless offshore fishing ventures, including those to Guesty's top four fishing spots - as quoted by the man himself.

    1. Townsville

Located in Far North Queensland, Townsville is a ripper gateway to the Great Barrier Reef. There are some amazing fishing opportunities on offer with easy access via the biggest boat launching park I've ever seen.

Three of the key target species high on any angler's list are coral trout, red emperor and large mouth nannygai. Let's face it what's not to like; they fight hard, look great and taste even better.

If you're more of a sports 'fisho' the pressure edges along the reef provide excellent popper fishing for Giant Trevally and Mackerel.

With so many other fish species on offer, along with a vast area of the reef to explore it's time to checkout Townsville.

    2. Jervis Bay (JB)

Jervis Bay sits proudly perched on the South Coast of NSW about three hours south of Sydney. It's one of those awesome locations that protrudes east only a relatively short distance from the continental shelf. This proximity to the warm water provided by the east Australian current makes Jervis Bay a prime spot for game fishing.

Black, striped, blue marlin and mahi mahi are all found in good numbers during the warmer months. Mako sharks are also prevalent off JB and are one of the most spectacular game fishing options you'll ever see.

As things cool off the action changes from billfish to yellow and bluefin tuna. Game fishing is an exciting sport and Jervis Bay offers great access to trailer boat fishermen whether it's your first time or you're an old hand.

    3. Crowdy Head

One of the great things about trailer boat fishing is the ability to explore new destinations. Crowdy Head is located on the mid-north coast of NSW and is a typical example of many small fishing villages.

It is serviced with a boat ramp and pontoon facility that gives direct offshore access. Keep an eye on the weather as with most coastal launching areas it is affected by north easterly swell.

Crowdy provides a spectacular inshore backdrop and is famous for great snapper fishing. Other species like tailor are in excellent numbers along the rocky foreshore and are fantastic fun on light tackle.

The warmers months and elevated water temperatures bring an influx of travelling pelagic species including Spanish mackerel, cobia and long tail tuna.

    4. Gladstone

When you look at a destination for a trailer boat holiday there's a few things a consider. One of them is great accommodation with boat parking and the other is a cracking fishing option if the wind picks up.

Lake Awoonga is set in the hinterland only 20 minutes from Gladstone and even less from Tannum Sands. The impoundment is home to a huge population of stocked barramundi with the average fish now very close to the magic metre mark.

Casting soft plastics, hard bodies, vibes and topwater lures are all effective methods on the Lake. If you are into trolling, the basin along with the deeper tree lined edges will also produce quality fish. So, if barramundi is on your bucket list check out Lake Awoonga.

With the perfect beast, hitting up these locations is a ripper experience out on the water.

Gear up the Yellowfin for a cracking adventure or, add one to the collection via Yellowfin's specialist network of Australia's best boat dealers, located across the country for ease of access.

Offering a wide range of boat layouts, contact your local dealer to discuss the best fit for you and your fishing style then, include these cracking spots in your bucket list.

Partnered with outboard leader, Mercury Marine, Yellowfin Plate Boats are available as complete factory-fitted boat, motor and trailer packages, through select dealers. Plus, featuring an array of options across the line-up, Yellowfin is proudly one of the most customisable boats in the market.

Become part of the Yellowfin family or find out more about the range at yellowfinplateboats.com.au.
