The World Sailing 2.4mR European Championship 2022 was won earlier this month by Great Britain's Megan Pascoe, in Baie de Quiberon, Brittany (France), with the top positions in this Inclusive Open regatta all going to Para Sailors.
Pascoe fought off an all-star field of 44 male and female athletes, featuring 28 able-bodied Olympic, world and national champions, and four Paralympians to win the coveted European title.
"I'm very happy to get my title back!" said Pascoe, who was European Champion in 2014 and 2016. "It's been a tough competition, especially up against the likes of Damien [Seguin] and Heiko [Kröger], and sailors with incredible CVs. We need sailing back in the Paralympics - it's an amazing pinnacle of our sport," said Pascoe.
The Championship, now in its 11th year, attracted a total of 16 athletes registered as World Sailing Para Sailors.
Damien Seguin, France's triple Paralympic medallist, and five-time 2.4mR World Champion - who last year became the first Para Sailor to compete in the round-the-world, solo, non-stop yacht race The Vendée Globe - finished behind Pascoe in second place. Third was Germany's Heiko Kröger, the 10-time World Champion and 2.4mR Class President, with gold and silver medals from the Sydney 2000 and London 2012 Paralympic Games, and member of World Sailing Athletes' Commission, with Italy's three-time Paralympic sailor Antonio Squizzato in fourth.
