ARC Europe Leg 2: Safe but windy welcome in Horta

by World Cruising Club 31 May 2022 22:31 PDT

Half of the ARC Europe fleet has reached Horta so far. On a passage from Bermuda with over 1800NM every boat has its own tale to tell. The conditions for the leg have been very testing for the crews with the latest arrivals reporting over 24 hours of very strong winds with occasional gusts of 45+ knots. With this prequel, one would expect the crews to be thrilled to arrive but with similar conditions in Horta harbour over the last day they needed to wait just a little bit longer.

As expected, this morning the crews awoke to a glorious sunshine, little wind and clear skies! Hopefully, this sets the tone for the next days of exploring the island of Faial.

The happy hours have continued at Peter's Sports Café with José topping up the (in)famous G&Ts and at the Clube Naval with their local beer and tasty bruschettas.

First crew supper takes place tomorrow evening at Canto da Doca where diners are given a fantastic range of fish and meats to cook on their own volcanic hot rock, followed by complementary tours of the island on Thursday.

Rally Control continues to monitor the progress of the fleet and we look forward to further arrivals over the next few days.
