From the team at Spot On The Fishing Connection wishing you all a Happy Easter, may you all have a good catch or two!

Saltwater

Kingfish
Kingfish have almost slowed completely this week with just the one report of a Kingfish caught from the shore in Northwest Bay.

Sand Flathead
Have been biting well on Grub tail soft plastics around Marion Bay, Maria Island and Norfolk Bay.

Bream
The Bream have been fantastic the last week with lure, fly and bait anglers having great success throughout the Derwent.

Tuna
Amazing reports of great numbers of Bluefin, Albacore and Striped all being caught from Cape Raoul right up the East Coast to St Helens.

The Tuna Club of Tasmania will be running the 29th Australian Bluefin Championships on the 23rd and 24th of April. Please contact the Tuna Club if you wish to participate, entries close 15th April so get in quick!

Australian Salmon
Fish up to 3kg have been caught in the channel off Middleton the last week. One angler describing his kayak being towed around while fighting one.

Garfish
Still good numbers in most estuary systems for the patient angler with a good burly trail.

Snapper
Good numbers of smaller fish still being reported in Storm Bay, the Channel and a few rogue fish in the middle of the Derwent.

Calamari
Large Calamari have been reported in water 6-10 metres off North Bruny. The Derwent around Opossum Bay, Kingston and Blackmans Bay have been producing the odd squid.

Mackerel
This year must be one of the best to date for the numbers of Mackerel being seen around the state.

Swordfish
The time is now to target the mighty Swordfish! Good reports over the last week of anglers landing, hooking and (unfortunately) losing good sized Swords. Congratulations to our good customer Nathan Ross and crew on hooking a fantastic Swordfish after 7 years of trying.

Freshwater

Little Pine Lagoon
For the fly fisher, wet fly fishing at Little Pine Lagoon is still firing. Be aware though that the water level is down and launching a boat may be difficult. One angler reporting doing well on nymphs retrieving with a fairly fast figure of eight.

Tooms Lake
A few reports have come in of Trout feeding on Galaxiids in the shallow margins. The Lake has been low and dirty for quite some time but may start to fish well for the rest of the season.

Brady's Chain
These lakes have started to fish well for the trolling anglers over the last week using cobra lures in bronze and red colours.

Top five fishing locations for the Easter long weekend:

1. Great Lake

Great Lake is the perfect base over the Easter long weekend with so many lakes in close proximity and the Trout starting to feed well before the spawn. The Great Lake Hotel offers fantastic meals as well as reasonable accommodation for those wishing to escape this Easter.

2. St Helens

George's Bay has a fantastic array of different species that offer both shore-based anglers and boat fishers' options. King George Whiting, Silver Trevally, Australian Salmon, Calamari, Bream and the odd Snapper are just some to name a few.

3. Eaglehawk Neck

With the Tuna, Swordfish, Striped Trumpeter and deep-sea species all in full swing this is a fantastic option close to home that will return a seafood banquet, perfect for Easter!

4. Bruny Island

Always a popular spot for angling. Bruny has been fishing incredibly well with access to Storm Bay and good numbers of Tuna, squid and Flathead being reported over the last couple of weeks.

5. Orford

A short drive from Hobart with the Scallop season starting and the chance of crayfish, Abalone and Flathead. Orford offers both the chance for family adventures as well as the more laid back, relaxed fishing destination.
