The Mark Mills designed Cape 31, which has exploded in popularity in both Europe and South Africa, finally made its much-awaited debut in Australia at the Sydney Harbour Regatta this past weekend, March 5th and 6th.

The Cape 31, Kukukerchu, competed in the Super 30 division in a twenty boat fleet, where she showed her sleek and powerful design and ability to mix it up in both light and heavy air conditions across both days taking out line wins in all five races.

With boat speeds of up to 20 knots on the downwind legs on Sunday, she was extremely comfortable and fun to sail in very lumpy conditions on a course set in the Sydney Heads Sound.

The Cape 31 has been set up with systems designed to make sailing simple, fun and extremely fast for her size. Sailing with a mixed crew of seven on Saturday and six on Sunday, her fifth and sixth day on the water since launching in Australia, there were a lot of smiles happening on the boat and ashore.

Kukukerchu Owner Dave Ross commented that "It is the most fun boat I have ever owned and has awesome downwind acceleration and is beautiful to drive upwind. It was great to be so competitive in the Super 30 fleet and we look forward to more racing coming up over the next month".

With more racing and tuning opportunities to be had, the Cape 31 looks the goods and will keep turning heads Down Under. Kukukerchu will be competing again at Sail Port Stephens in early April.

Cape 31 Australia has plans to build a One Design fleet, that also performs in IRC, to match the successful and accelerating growth of these boats in South Africa and UK over recent times.
