With just two years until the start of the Ocean Globe Race, many commentators now realise it is not only a grand adventure and challenging Race, but it represents the newest development in Offshore sailing in the last decade. To race around the world in traditional and historic yachts, without technology, on the classic clipper ship route via Cape Horn, steps back in time to an age where ordinary sailors and yacht owners could act out dreams.

Who would ever have imagined this could happen again? Well, it is and sailors and yacht owners are grasping that opportunity with real passion. There are five or six times more crew looking for yachts, than all 24 current OGR entrants could hold. This dream is alive in sailors everywhere.

OGR Chairman Don McIntyre would like to invite you, either in person, or via Facebook LIVE, to our next OGR Press Conference on Sept 10th (exactly two years from the start) at the Southampton Show.

If you're coming, you can use this code EPTOPYERSXMKHE to register for discount tickets. (Ticket Booking here, Offer price: £19.00, per Any One Day flexible entry ticket - saving up to £12.50 on gate purchases.)

OGR will have a presence at the show, Exhibiting in Ocean Hall 2...stand J158... from the 10th to the 19th Sept. Please come and meet the team.

Ocean Globe Race 2023 UK Press Conference. (1300-1400hrs Sept 10th.)

For the first time in nearly 30 years and in the spirit of the original 1973 Whitbread Race, up to 34 classic yachts, crewed by a mix of professional and amateur sailors, under retro rules, will again race around the world. OGR Founder and Race Chairman Don McIntyre welcomes to centre stage Sir Chay Blyth to the organisation and introduces OGR entrants including Tracy Edwards onboard "MAIDEN", Tapio Lehtinen "GALIANA", Dominique Dubois "FUTURO", Isabelle Andrieu "TRANSLATED 9" and Barry Pickthall "Mr around the world race" the last living journalist who was there covering those original epic races. We will also be joined by a few living legends from those original Whitbread races with real stories to share. Currently we have 24 entrants from 13 countries including four from the UK signed up. Important announcements will be made on that day.

CLASS Numbers Open

On 10th Sept. with the release of the official Notice of Race. All Class entry limits are dropped. There are now 10 entry places available across all classes with the total number of entries capped at 34.

Would you like to CREW?

Too many OGR crew and not enough yachts has created the first CREW Co-operative OGR entry. An international crew from around the world got together and bought a Baltic 55 creating an ADVENTURE CLASS entry from Australia. There are many yachts that qualify under OGR requirements currently for sale. Another CREW cooperative team are looking at doing the same. If you are an interested Crew, hoping to find a ride, you should join the OGR2023 Interested Entrants Facebook page.
