Covid-19 yachting protocols update

by Noonsite 29 May 2021 08:28 PDT

EU Member States have now agreed to open the borders for travellers from third countries, who have been vaccinated, welcome news for boat owners waiting to return to their yachts in Europe and get some summer cruising this year.

EU countries often have different rules for private yacht arrivals, so be sure to check the country biosecurity section on Noonsite for yachting protocols.

May saw the opening of Greece to foreign boats as well as Denmark.

In the South Pacific Fiji is seeing a rise in Covid cases and has partially locked down plus closed borders to international flights. The Blue Lane entry procedure for yachts has so far not been affected. French Polynesia opened to travelers from the USA, but maritime borders remain resolutely closed. NZ continue to extend TIEs into 2022 and sailors' visas up to October/November 2021 bringing relief to those forced to remain there. Many have taken the opportunity to circumnavigate NZ, even Stewart Island.

In SE Asia rules and regulations are changing constantly. Yachts stuck in Malaysia have had to contend with being thrown out last month if crew could not secure a visa extension, to being offered an extension until the end of the year this month (too late for many). As the country is in lockdown until mid-June, those that stayed can't go anywhere anyway. Singapore is allowing boats to enter with quarantine, but like Malaysia no movement is permitted.
