Light wind led to a late start on the first day of the qualification round and even when racing got underway it was still with only 7 to 9kts of breeze. Even in these light and variable conditions, the teams were able to coax their boats into the air, and each team completed three races.
The challenging conditions shone a light on the teams that were able to find the pressure on the racecourse, and who could successfully keep their boat up on the foils. To no-one’s great surprise, it was the three teams with the most experience in the Persico 69F who now lead the rankings, although the Southern Challenge from USA showed strong potential.
