OK class at Kieler Woche 2020 - Second Day

by Robert Deaves 11 Sep 2020 11:07 PDT 10-13 September 2020

Mads Bendix has taken a two point lead over Andre Budzien after the second day of Kieler Woche. Thomas Hansson-Mild overcame a UFD in the first race of the day to post a 3,2 and stay in third, but is now 12 points adrift of the front two.

Though the day started sunny, it became progressively cloudier, with a 12-18 knot breeze developing from the west and a steep chop causing quite a few to skip the later races and head back to the Sckilksee.

The fleet is sharing the course with the Finn class and is sailing the inner trapezoid loop followed by two long offwind legs to the finish, which tends to favour the better downwind sailors.

Bendix is generally making the best of it on the water, but is not always having it his own way and several times has had to work through to take the race win. Both Budzien and Hansson-Mild have taken turns at leading, while behind them are a group of five or six others ready to pounce when the opportunity presents itself.

Two days remain.
