In 1921 a group of British and American yachtsmen had a desire to encourage international racing. The very first British-American Cup took place during Cowes Week of that same year in 6 Metres and saw the British team victorious, winning 117 points to 88.

The racing format has changed over the decades, but currently it is agreed upon as a 4v4 team race. It is a first-to-seven series, with each race lasting approximately 45 minutes. The biennial event alternates sides of the pond and in 2019 the British narrowly defeated the Americans on Queen Mary Reservoir, 7 to 5.

The event will celebrate its 100th anniversary 14-16th October 2021 at Seawanhaka Corinthian Yacht Club in Centre Island, New York. There, the British team will look to win the Cup on American soil, an achievement which has not been accomplished since 1924!

Do you have what it takes to be on the winning team? Four British helms will be chosen by a panel of selectors who will take the performances at the below events into consideration. All of the events will be hosted by the Royal Thames Yacht Club at Queen Mary Reservoir in J/80s. The BA Cup team will consist of 16 sailors, of which at least four must be female. The team will be announced in April 2021.

Application for consideration will be triggered via the entry forms to the below events.

The Notice of Race and Entry form for each event will be posted on www.royalthames.com/Sailing/Racing-Calendar
