The RS21 fleet joined an extraordinary celebration in Cowes for the Royal Thames Yacht Club's 250th Anniversary Regatta.

Held over three days from May 13th to 15th, the regatta brought together over 250 boats in a vibrant showcase of competitive sailing across the central Solent. The event provided a dynamic mix of weather conditions, delivering memorable racing and a festive atmosphere both on and off the water.

Day 1 - Light and Tactical

The regatta opened under light conditions, with the fleet delayed ashore as they waited for sufficient breeze. Racing eventually commenced in 8 knots from the southeast over flat water. The second race saw a significant drop in wind, prompting a shortened course. Despite the calm conditions, morale remained high, with crews enjoying pontoon beers post-racing.

Day 2 - Challenging Conditions

The second day began with fresh 18-knot winds from the southwest, aided by a tide running in the same direction. By afternoon, gusts reached up to 25 knots, with the tide turning to create steep chop—testing boat handling and teamwork across the fleet. The day's intense racing was followed by a celebratory evening hosted by RTYC, complete with fireworks and social festivities.

Day 3 - Building Breeze

The final day featured moderate 12-knot breezes on a flat, cross-tide course. Conditions gradually intensified to 22 knots by the concluding race, with the sea state becoming more demanding. Crews rose to the occasion, closing the regatta with competitive, high-energy racing.
