Following a tremendous start to the year at the rather breezy Frostbite Championships, the Covid-19 situation has impacted our sailing. There is considerable uncertainty surrounding lots of events.

A number of regattas have already been cancelled or postponed by clubs and we have had to take a serious look at our National Championship (originally scheduled for June).

The committee has made the decision to postpone the 2020 Nationals to later in the year and in doing so we have been forced to change the venue as well as the date. The Royal Southern YC has been very accommodating and squeezed us into their busy September schedule. The National Championships will now be sailed from the Royal Southern Yacht Club, 18-20 September with the UK Sprint Championships raced the day before (17 September). Below is a quick summary for your diary.

  • Northern Championship - Postponed and renamed Inland Championships on 7-8 November
  • Warsash Spring Series- Cancelled
  • Warsash Spring Championships - Cancelled
  • RORC Vice Admiral's Cup - Cancelled
  • SB20 Sprint Championships - Postponed to 17 September 2020
  • SB20 National Championships - Postponed to 18-20 September 2020
  • September Regatta - Replaced by Nationals
  • Round the Island Race - Postponed to 26 September 2020
The number of cancelled and postponed events may have ramifications on how we might score both the UK Series and the Solent Series this year. So far the biggest change is that the Solent Series has lost three events (Spring Champs, Vice Admirals, & September Regatta), but gained the Sprint Championships. Meanwhile the National Series has lost the Southern Championships.

If we need to we will amend these series as and when we know which events are likely to sail. We will keep any amendments in line with the spirit of the series. As always the website is your first point of call for information and the 2020 UK Series page is updated regularly.

In the mean time I hope you are all staying safe. Lets keep our fingers crossed for the Royal Solent Yacht Club Taitinger Regatta and Cowes Grand Slam.
