GKA have got the action covered! © Yewder.com

The action is back with the start of the GKA Kite-Surf World Cup on the island of Sal on Friday.

Registration for the event is now closed and it's going to be an monumental start to the tour, with a record number of 68 riders applying to compete in the men's division (only 30 competitors are permitted in each division) and a record 27 riders applied for the women's division!

Riders have been warming up for the event at Ponta Preta this week, and local rippers are sharing the action, with six Cape Verdeans competing in the men's and one in the women's there is sure to be great support from the home crowd. Conditions are set to be pumping at the powerful, world class break. This event will be livestreamed so you can follow all of the action, as it happens and we have some extra care for our riders in store...

It's easy for us, as kiters, to forget the risks involved with our favorite sport, kitesurfing is after all an 'extreme sport' and professional riders are continuously pushing the limits within competitions and their training. That's why the GKA Kite World Tour is really excited to have partnered with Battleface Insurance for 2020.

Riders acquiring a GKA race licence, or tour membership will automatically receive personal accident insurance with Battleface while competing in countries other than that of their national citizenship, in 2020. This includes unlimited € medical expenses and personal liability cover up to €1m and is the first time we have been able to offer this amazing insurance coverage for our athletes.

Will current World Champions Airton Cozzolino and Mikaili Sol be off to an epic start in 2020? It's almost time to find out, get ready for the action to commence this Friday!

Find out who will be competing here.
