Border Counties Midweek Sailing - A new season and a new sailing series!

This season we have introduced a Border Counties Midweek Sailing Series for those of us who are fortunate enough to be able to free-up some time on a Tuesday. It is aimed at those living in the border counties of North Wales, Cheshire and Shropshire, although anybody is welcome.

It will follow a similar format to the very successful North West Senior Travellers that is mainly based around Manchester. However, Border Counties Midweek Sailing is open to all age groups and not just restricted to the over 50s. This is because nowadays many people work flexible hours and often find themselves available mid-week. Also, several of our events are in the school holidays, which we hope will encourage juniors and families to join in the fun.

The general focus is on friendly racing with an entry fee of just £5 per event. No galley is expected so everybody should bring their own refreshments and sandwiches. Events will be held on a Tuesday with the first of three handicap races starting at 11:00hr with a break for lunch after the first race. The two afternoon races may be run back-to-back depending on the sailing area.

There has been a tremendous response from local clubs and we are really pleased that six clubs have already agreed to host events:-

  • 28th April - Budworth Sailing Club
  • 26th May - Shotwick Lake Sailing
  • 30th June - Chester Sailing and Canoe Club
  • 28th July - Nantwich and Border Counties Sailing Club
  • 18th August - Redesmere Sailing Club
  • 25th August - Bala Sailing Club

There is a wide variety of sailing waters to test everybody to the limit so why not make the effort and come and join us? There will be overall prizes at the end of the series for both double-handed and single-handed boats.

It is not too late for more clubs to host an event and it would be great to have a few more clubs sign-up this year with hopefully more in the future.

Please look at our website for more information or send us an email.
