West Marine is proud to announce the launch of an updated line of Third Reef foul weather gear for men and women. Affordable, functional and comfortable, the iconic Third Reef Foul Weather gear was first introduced in 1988 and is an essential part of any boater's collection. The improved line includes new features that were requested and tested by West Marine customers adding in the latest in foul weather gear technology and fabric features.

Waterproof, windproof and breathable, the line has been built with the competitive sailor or offshore fisherman in mind. The nylon outer layer causes rain and spray to run off and the durable nylon shell is resistant to tears and abrasions while drying quickly for a lightweight wear. Internal seams are all taped and sealed to keep water from getting through common points of entry while reinforced nylon patches in the seat, knees and cuffs keep these areas sturdy even after some use. External hook-and-loop adjusters at the ankle cuffs keep the elements out while adjustable shoulder straps provide a better fit. Finally, reflective trim adds 360 degrees visibility for added safety in low-light situations.

"Third Reef has always been loved by boaters since its launch in 1988 and is a line we're extremely proud of," said Ron Baime, chief merchandise officer for West Marine. "Based on feedback from our customers and employees, as well as our own internal field testing, we combined the best features from our previous versions and added new design elements that we know our customers will love."

The Third Reef gear will retail for $189 across all products, and will be $199 for extended sizes. Features include:

  • Internal water-resistant stretch cuffs to keep water out with hook and loop adjustments
  • Internal taped seams that are sealed and waterproof
  • Waterproof Vislon zippers on key pockets
  • Soft mesh inner lining to wick away moisture and breathes as activity level increases
  • Reinforced patches at wear points for added durability
  • Highly-visible, bright, safety-yellow hood to make it easier to spot you on the deck or in the water
Both men's and women's jackets and bibs are available online and in store.
