Race 1 of the CYCA's 2019 Concierge Traveller Spring Series was a memorable one, with gusty south-westerly breezes and temperatures in the low teens sailors giving sailors reason to think they were heading into the middle of winter!

With the sometimes-wild, cold conditions, entrant numbers were down slightly with 16 yachts making it out to the starting line for the pursuit start off Point Piper.

With the first mark being Clark Island, it was a quick beat upwind for the crews before turning north and making the fast run down the harbour towards either Lady Bay or Cannae Point. With spinnakers flying, it was an exciting ride for all with Rapid Transit notching up their fastest speed of over 16 knots.

Each week the divisional winners are put in to the draw for a $500 Concierge Traveller voucher. David Greenland, Managing Director of Concierge Traveller, was at the presentation to hand out the prize to the lucky winning skipper.

"We are very pleased at Concierge Traveller to be a part of and sponsor the Spring Series with this new partnership at the CYCA," Greenland said.

"It's great to be able to be more involved and support the sailing community as we regularly work with Sailing Australia and the Australian Olympic team."

This week saw a very excited Beth Abbott (skipper of Rapid Transit) receiving the Concierge Traveller cheque who was this week's winner of division 2.

Concierge Traveller Spring Series Race 1 divisional winners:

Div 1 - Sean Rahilly's Crosshaven
Div 2 - Beth Abbott's Rapid Transit
Div 3 (non spinnaker) - Herman Heiligers' HubCap II

The appeal of offshore
Is there still appeal? Have we made it too onerous? Why would someone take it up now? I had been pondering. Yes. Marquee events have no issue attracting entrants.
