MS Amlin Yacht, the boat insurance specialists, have now been race partners of Round the Island Race for 17 consecutive years and are one of the longest standing partners in one of the largest yacht races in the world.

On Saturday 29th June, many areas of the business took to the water, from three sponsored yachts competing in the race, through to staff and clients taking to the water to view the boats return, and despite the challenging race conditions, a great event was had by all.

This year a number of clients from businesses across the inland waterways joined MS Amlin staff to view the action on a prestigious traditional motor yacht "Seafin" which included RIB Rides for those wanting to get close up to those faster boats completing.

Weather conditions allowed for the first spinnaker start in just under ten years with our sponsored yachts MS Amlin QT, Scotch Mist and Enigma experiencing a slower than average race with a mixed bag of weather around the Island. With 1210 boats setting off, this year saw only 283 crossing the line, MS Amlin Enigma being one of the few select yachts to successfully complete the course, she placed second in her class (IRC 3A) and 22nd overall.

MS Amlin QT and Scotch Mist suffered due to the changeable conditions on the southern side of the island and made the difficult decision to retire from the race, alongside many others.

Paul Knox-Johnston, MS Amlin Business Development Manager said, "Round the Island Race is not only about racing to win, but also about the spirit of so many boating peers being out on the water in what is a festival of sailing. It is a spectacle and showcase for the industry to the many non boaters who see the mass of sail across the solent over the weekend and hopefully feel inspired to get involved in the future. It was great to see one of our sponsored yachts finish with a high placing in such a difficult race and the rest of the team enjoyed being involved with the atmosphere out on the water watching."

MS Amlin Yacht offer their policy holders taking part in this race extended race cover at no additional cost. Although it is too late to benefit from this, MS Amlin still offer competitive boat insurance policies and a unique loyalty scheme. Get in touch with their friendly sales team for a quote today.
