Both MS Amlin sponsored entrants were winners at this year's 42nd Royal Escape Race. MS Amlin Scotch Mist, skippered by John Macaulay, won their class and the Maiden Entrant Class, and MS Amlin Enigma, skippered by Ian Braham, not only won their class, but also took overall Line Honours.

The Royal Escape Race is the largest offshore race on the South Coast outside of the Solent, bringing together a diverse fleet of yacht classes from both France and the UK.

The race re-enacts the escape of King Charles II from Oliver Cromwell and his Parliamentarian Roundheads in 1651. Following the bloody battle of Worcester, Charles fled to the South Coast and made his escape to safety in France aboard the 31ft coal carrying coaster named 'Surprise'. The race traces the original 67 mile route from Southwick, UK to Fécamp, France and saw over 50 competitors battle for line honours this year.

MS Amlin's Marketing Assistant and PA, Karen Pooley, who was a member of crew on MS Amlin Scotch Mist, said "Being new to sailing and competing for the first time in the Royal Escape Race was both a nerve-wracking but hugely enjoyable experience. John and the rest of his crew were so supportive and to place 1st in class and win the Maiden Entrant Class too, amongst such a challenging field was a great surprise. Being out on the water alongside likeminded sailors is what it is all about and topping the day off with the hospitality of the Fécamp Yacht Club and socialising with the other race crews made the event a really memorable one for me and the other MS Amlin crews as well. We will be back to defend all of our titles in 2020!"
