RYA Push the Boat Out 2019 gets off to great start in Llandegfedd

A double figure number of new sailors gave the sport a try at the first Push The Boat Out session at Llandegfedd, a great start with more opportunities to come in May.
Feedback from those taking advantage of the opportunity to try sailing was very positive, with almost half looking to follow up training or membership opportunities.
The club even had to temporarily close the website because of the number of pre-bookings, but extra volunteers meant it has been re-opened and no-one has been turned away.
"The weather was challenging, very cold at first, but things improved slightly through the day," said Llandegfedd sailing club PTBO co-ordinator Lynette Williams.
"We took 14 people out on the water and the feedback was amazing, people said they enjoyed going fast, getting wet, and were interested in getting further training and joining the club.
"Thanks to the volunteers for making it possible, we are hoping for better weather for future sessions this month."
Places are running out for this Saturday, May 11, while there are also early bookings coming in for the final free sessions on May 18. Dwr Cymru Welsh Water Watersports will be running training courses throughout the summer at Llandegfedd for those who miss out.
There will be the chance to try dinghy sailing and accessible sailing between 10am to 3.30pm (accessible sailing will finish at 1.45pm), on May 11 and 18. Participants must be aged eight or over, there will be a £5 charge to cover costs.
RYA Cymru Wales are heavily involved in the national participation campaign which aims to get more people sailing, windsurfing, having fun and getting active outdoors, with PTBO open days providing visitors with an opportunity to get out on-the-water and to find out more about their local club or training centre
Getting active outdoors has been proven to positively impact physical and mental health. An escape from modern day life, getting out on-the-water is something the whole family can benefit from.
PTBO open days are aimed at complete novices, as well as more experienced sailors, everyone is welcome. All kit and safety equipment will be provided, visitors just need to bring a pair of old trainers they don't mind getting wet, and a sense of fun and adventure.
