Hansa World and International Championships in Hiroshima, Japan - Day 3

by Tomoko Nishi 17 Oct 2018 03:34 PDT 14-18 October 2018

The Hansa World & International Championship continues. Today the Hansa 2.3 Single fleet sailed one race, the Hansa 303 Single and Liberty classes sailed two races, and the Hansa 303 Double class started in the afternoon and managed three races.

After six races, Michael Darby and Christopher Symonds from Australia are leading the Hansa 303 Double class. Piotr Cichocki from Poland and Takumi Niwa from Japan are tied for the lead in the Hansa 303 Single class after completing five races.

Bob Sohahinger from Australia is leading with a big margin in the Liberty class. Yui Fujimoto from Japan, who is one point behind the Hansa 2.3 class leader Lindsay Burns from Great Britain (Frensham Pond SC), said, "All my family are Hansa sailors. So the hierarchy in my house is decided by the race's result!" She laughed and continued, "Today I made a very basic mistake so my position dropped. Tomorrow will be another day. I will work hard."

After racing the Hansa community enjoyed a mid-week party with Japanese traditional stage performances, Karate demonstrations, and music played by competitor Ame Barnbrook.

Up to ten races are scheduled in each class with two more days left. It will be very exciting to see who will be the Hansa World Champions. The close racing will continue.
