As the Melges 20 World League, Euro Division 2018 season nears the end, Italy's Filippo Pacinotti at the helm of Brontolo managed to hold onto the lead in Cagliari after two more races. His year commenced with winning the inaugural stage in Forio d'Ischia last April, and now he is ready to seize the final win on the 2018 circuit.

The breeze today came from the Southwest with waves, at a velocity of 12-14 knots making for a very nervous fleet, even more so as the Race Committee departed the docks announced their intention of a 'uniform flag' for both daily races.

Reigning Melges World League (and European) Champion Igor Rytov racing Russian Bogatyrs won the first race of the day, with Pacinotti hot on his heels in second - a result that allowed him to hang onto the lead, but potentially threaten his direct opponents and their current positions on the overall circuit ranking.

The second race of the day, Race Four in the regatta series went to the illustrious Drew Freides on Pacific Yankee, followed by 'Boat of the Day' Russian Bogatyrs, with circuit leader Vladimir Prosikhin's Nika in third.

Despite Pacinotti's sixth place finish in the final race on Saturday, he still holds the event lead by three slim points.

Sunday will be a major showdown with Rytov right behind in second overall, followed by Freides in third - six points back, and Prosikhin is fourth.

The Corinthian division continues to be controlled by Marco Giannini's Siderval, also seated in an impressive fifth place overall.

Sunday is the last day of racing with a warning at 1100 local European time.

The Melges World League is supported by Helly Hansen, Garmin Marine, North Sails, Toremar, Lavazza, Rigoni di Asiago and Melges Europe. Melges World League has signed and adopts the code of ethics of the Charta Smerarlda strongly promoting the values of One Ocean Foundation.
