The thermal did not disappoint the Melges 20 World League European Fleet of twenty-eight teams in Cagliari today. The ideal conditions allowed for two initial races to be completed, putting Italy's Filippo Pacinotti at the helm of Brontolo in the lead position. Trailing in second place and not to be underestimated, is reigning World Champion Drew Freides' Pacific Yankee, and Russia's Igor Rytov sailing Russian Bogatyrs in third.
Pacinotti relied heavily on tactician Manu Weiller to guide his team to an impressive 1-1 daily victory score. On the Melges 20 World League Ranking, Pacinotti is classified behind Rytov and Alexander Ezhkov's Pirogovo. Now with him in the Cagliari lead, Pacinotti becomes the prey and everyone will make him the target to beat.
In the Corinthian category, Marco Giannini's Siderval did well to overcome his nearest opponent Alexander Mikhaylik on Alex Team to take an early lead in the all-amatuer division.
Racing continues on Saturday at 13.30, with the event concluding on Sunday.
The Melges World League is supported by Helly Hansen, Garmin Marine, North Sails, Toremar, Lavazza, Rigoni di Asiago and Melges Europe
Melges World League has signed and adopts the code of ethics of the Charta Smerarlda strongly promoting the values of One Ocean Foundation.
