Tom Stewart and Liz Ross launched the latest P&B Feeling Foolish N12 at the mid winter championships at the weekend and won three out of the four races held. The boat left the P&B workshop fully tuned and ready to race. It was measured on Saturday and a winner on Sunday. The boat is fitted with Holt hardware and Superspar spars. The sails are the latest development from the P&B loft. Tom and Liz are using a longer than standard jib luff length and a radial head and base main out of Bainbridge SL30 Kevlar.

Royal Harwich Yacht Club hosted the annual N12 midwinters on Sunday the 19th Feb. The previous year the sailors got to build snowmen before race one, this year it felt cold enough to snow but despite a North East breeze blowing in from the North Sea the snow held off.

The format was four short races held back to back. Ian Sharps and Ellie Martin (N3477) led the way up the first beat of race one only to discover when it came to the bear away that the centreboard was not on the pin and the whole board came out in Ellies hands. Rich Williiams crewed by Stella Brown (3450) went for the gap between Sharps/Martin and the mark only to fowl the mooring gear and collect the mark. Fran Gifford and Sophie Mackley (N3431) made the most of the chaos and slipped in to a lead that they carried to the finish. Tom Stewart and Liz Ross (N3501)worked their way up to second place on the final beat just ahead of Antony Gifford and Jess Green.(N3484)

Race two also went to Tom and liz after a close struggle with Jon and Jules Brown who were the first to the windward mark but were not fast enough to defend their position down wind.

Rich Williams and Stella Brown led race three with Tom and liz and both Gifford boats hot on their transom. Race Officer Chris Brown added a couple of reaches and Tom and liz were fast enough to plane pass Rich and Stella on the first and Fran and Sophie got him on the second.

Race four saw all but the potential winners heading in for warm showers and the bar. On an almost empty start line both Giffords went for the same space and forced each other over This left the way relatively clear for Tom and liz except that Rich and Stella were hammering the right corner hard, meanwhile after restarting Fran and Sophie went Left and took Rich and Stella just before the first mark and left them in Irons at the starboard rounding mark. Tom and Liz won again with Fran and Sophie second on the water. (They retired after finishing having taken advice on the shore.)

The competitors thanks go to PRO Chris Brown and his team for some excellent midwinter racing.

Overall Results:

1st Tom Stewart and Liz Ross N3501
2nd Antony Gifford and Jess Green N3484
3rd Frances Gifford and Sophie Mackley N3431
