It has been quite the year for the Queen's Sailing Team member, Zachary Baum. Named Helly Hansen Sailor of the Month in November for his continuous dedication and good results, Zac seems to be working hard on and off the water to get Collegiate Sailing recognized.
Last month, Zac received the Jack Jarvis Trophy for Top Male Athlete at the 82nd annual Colour Awards Varsity Club Athletic Banquet at Queen's University, awarded annually to a Varsity Club male student-athlete in his 4th or 5th year who best displays qualities of scholastic achievement, competitiveness, leadership, sportsmanship, dedication and exceptional contributions to his team.
"Being part of the team the past 5 years has been one of the greatest parts of my university career, by far. This award also, to me, reveals a lot of other things surrounding the climate that exists with sailing in Canada. Since I joined the team in 2013, the atmosphere of the team and the calibre of our training has gotten much more serious. We really mean business now. "
"Being chosen as Helly Hansen Sailor of the Month is a big step forward for the recognition of collegiate sailing in Canada as whole"
After 5 years of competing and growing with the team, Zac will be returning to aid his fellow teammates while he completes his Master's Degree.
A notable mention goes out to Bruce Millar for his 2nd place finish at the 2018 2.4 Meter CanAm Championship Series at the Charlotte Harbor Yacht Club in Florida, USA.
