Wyndham Harbour is proudly hosting it's very first school sailing program for the local school: Alamanda College. The five-day training program is under the guidance and curriculum of Australian Sailing, who are recognised by the International Sailing Federation as the governing body for the sport of sailing in Australia.

The Alamanda College program will commence on Monday 19 March 2018 and conclude on Friday 23 March 2018.

Qualified instructors from Australian Sailing and staff from Alamanda College will be onsite all week for the activity and will supervise the kids. They are expected to arrive each day at 8am to 4pm with on-water operations scheduled to begin at 9am and conclude at 3pm daily.

With all this on-water activity, access to your boat and our waterway will not be impacted. However, we do suggest that you exercise patience with a touch of empathy, for the young students as most are trying sailing for the very first time.

As such, we ask you to exercise caution when arriving and departing your berth and when underway, particularly as you pass in and out of the marina entrance channel during this time. Trained instructors will be on the water in both the Wyndham Harbour RIB (inflatable) and in other vessels to assist the students and ensure safe passage for all.

If your planning on heading out during class times, get one of the instructors' attention and they will move the students to give you clear passage.

We trust these activities will run smoothly here at Wyndham Harbour, we have the utmost faith in the crew from Australian Sailing who have conducted this program at other marinas around Australia on many occasions. australian Sailing has promised us they will ensure that our marina berth owners, marina tenants and residents are not disadvantaged in any way.

Please find below an informal chart showing probable areas of operation (dependent on prevailing winds) supplied by Australian Sailing. Their staff will set the course and control the on-water activity each day.

Staff, instructors and students will also be using marina berths D30 to D44 inclusive. They will be storing dinghies on the fingers overnight, leaving the main walkways clear. Toilets in the Amenities Building, showers in the marina lounge will be used by the students and either Ramae's Cafe Lounge or the St Kilda Boat Sales office will be used as a classroom, should the weather become an issue.

To contact Australian Sailing staff whilst on-water, they will be operating on VHF Channel 72. The marina staff will also be available to assist and will monitor that radio channel as well.

If you have any queries, please don't hesitate to contact Adam Gristwood from Australian Sailing.
