On January 15th, the Liberian Coast Guard, with the assistance of Sea Shepherd crew, arrested a purse seine vessel that was fishing without a license, among other violations.
The ship's Master and Chief offered financial bribes to the Liberian Coast Guard in an ill-fated attempt to evade justice. On January 16th, 2018 Sea Shepherd released a video detailing the discovery of a shark liver oil plant on board a vessel that was arrested by the Liberian Coast Guard with the assistance of the M/Y Sam Simon. It is estimated the vessel had killed up to 500,000 sharks in the past year to produce shark liver oil for the cosmetics and dietary supplements markets.
