This weekend was the first Broxbourne Train and Race. The turnout was great, with 8 people on Saturday and 16 people, from 8 clubs, racing on Sunday. There was great training all day Saturday, from Hobie and Harry, which was very fun and definitely helped the next day.

On Sunday the wind was very strong and we got 3 really good races in. Everyone was fine but we did have some breakages. My mast snapped half way through the second race and I had to retire.

The first race was set off just after the club racers and was full of excitement, the wind was very gusty with huge wind shifts at the edges of the lake. There were lots of capsizes from many competitors, which meant there were lots of position changes through the races, and very exciting to watch.

Matt Taylor led the SPORTs throughout the races, despite a few capsizes from him, coming first in all three (and beating the PROs home). Overall, Josh Davies came second and Jack Oakley 3rd in the sports.

The PROs also proved a tight competition. The overall winner, Oscar Cubitt, managed a brilliant pitch pole on the start line for one race. James Oakley came second and Tim Hire third.

The club was great for spectating because of the panoramic views. The food was good and the club was very welcoming. We thank 'Taking the Helm' for sponsoring the prizes and we look forward to having an event here next year.

PRO fleet results:

1. Oscar Cubitt (Alton Water SC)
2. James Oakley (Royal Hospital School)
3. Tim Hire (Royal Lymington YC)

SPORT fleet results:

1. Matt Taylor (Alton Water SC)
2. Josh Davies (Dabchicks / RHS)
3. Jack Oakley (Middle Nene SC)
