Cardiff’s sailors win home event

Cardiff’s first team have won their home event, hosted at Cardiff Yacht Club on November 20 & 21st. Winning all their races Cardiff truly dominated the event. With the largest entry ever, visitors came from across the UK with entries from Warwick, Oxford, Nottingham, Bristol, Exeter, Reading, Bangor, Kent, as well as two teams from Cardiff.

The 12 teams entered for the event meant that the fleet was drawn into two leagues. Cardiff 1sts won every race in their league, particularly converting a certain win for Exeter Freshers into a Cardiff win. Captain, Alex Laird said “it went down to the last leg, the leading two Exeter boats split, and we chased them down, getting two boats through to take the win.”

In the other league competition was tighter with Bristol Ladies and Exeter 2nds both winning four and losing one of their races. This tie was separated in favour of Bristol as they beat Exeter when the teams met.

Unfortunately the wind failed to materialise on Sunday so the top teams didn’t get to sail against each other. The results were worked out on the basis of Saturday’s 30 races, allowing all the teams to take their hangovers home with them.
