The annual firefly event at Tamesis took place over the weekend of 24th and 25th April. On Saturday the club ran an under 6 event consisting of two ten minute races which was won by Finnian Morris aged almost 4 sailing with dad roger. Other prize winners included Madeline Greaves, Thomas Davey, Robbie Hudson and Cameron Bowden all aged 3 or 4.

Following the traditional Saturday night dinner the Elizabeth Cup was sailed on Sunday consisting of 3 races.

Race 1 saw several early starters return and was led by Mark Tait and Sally Wakefield at the first mark. They were pressed hard by Steve Greaves and Sophia Hulbert all the way till close contact became too close and Greaves was forced to do a 720 on the last lap opening the door for Stuart Hudson and Amy Bowden to finish 2nd. Alex Davey crewed by Jonquil Brooks finished 3rd with Greaves and Hulbert 4th.

Race 2 saw Davey and Brookes nail the start and they led for start to finish. Behind them was much place changing as different boats fell in and out of the holes in the wind across the river. Hudson and Bowden again came out 2nd with Greaves/Hulbert 3rd and Tait /Wakefield 4th.

Going into the last race, 4 boats could still win. This time Hudson and Bowden nailed the reaching start at the windward end to lead at the first mark. They were able to open up a descent lead but were almost overtaken by Greaves and Hulbert on the last lap having fallen into a hole but in the end were able to hold an inside overlap at the down river mark and hold on for 1st in the race and overall. Tait and Wakefield got 3rd in the race behind Greaves and Hulbert with Guy Davison and Lorna Dixon 4th.

A big thank you to all at Tamesis Club for their hospitality and organisation of a great weekend.

Overall Results:

1st Stuart Hudson and Amy Bowden (Weston and Royal Harwich) 2,2,1
2nd Mark Tait and Sally Wakefield (Itchenor) 1,4,3
3rd Alex Davey and Jonquil Brookes (Royal Harwich) 3,1,5
4th Steve Greaves and Sophia Hulbert (Rickmondsworth) 4,3,2
5th Guy Davison and Lorna Dixon (Llangorse) 6,7,4
