After the sub zero temperatures of January 10th there was some trepidation when the weather forecast promised another icy blast straight from Siberia for the second leg of the North Eastern Laser Radial Training on January 31st. As it turned out the weather was cool and breezy but clear blue skies made for a great day for sailing. North Lincs. Sailing club were again the hosts and provided great hospitality for the participants.

Two new faces arrived, both girls, and determined not to be outdone by the boys. Coach Brett Cockayne, mindful of the weather forecast, got everyone out on the water early with the plan to retreat to the classroom if the wind built too much. As it turned out the breeze built but things stayed just about manageable all day so two good sessions were run either side of lunch. The debriefings at lunch time and at the end of the day provided much food for thought with a great deal of entertaining action captured on video. Gybing on the whistle in 25 knots is a real test for anyone!

The 3rd day of the training series takes place on February 28th with the final session the following week on March 7th. Both of these take place at Beaver Sailing Club. By then the weather should be a bit warmer and attract even more Radial sailors. Anyone can take part and more information can be obtained from series organiser Jim Hackney who can be contacted on 01469 531394 or
