Topper Traveller at Tarbert Loch Fyne Yacht Club

by Bill Young 14 Jul 2003 02:07 PDT

A weekend of fine weather and variable winds saw a fleet of 49 Toppers come to Tarbert, Loch Fyne for the fourth Scottish Traveller of the year. The main fleet of 29 boats and Development (Regatta) Fleet of 16 represented clubs from all parts of Scotland. Local Scottish Squad sailor, Nell Hardie showed guests the way round the course, taking her first race win in a Traveller, with promising Helensburgh sailor, Gavin Jeffrey chasing in second place. In the Development fllet new sailor to the Travellers, Andrew Homer set out his intentions of winning this keen fleet. Race 2 in the main fleet saw unbeaten traveller sailor, Robin Paris come into contention with the ever present Harry Calvert taking the third race. At the end of the first day it was all Helensburgh with Gavin Jeffrey and Andrew Homer sitting at the top of the results sheets. Sunday brought finer weather after the fourth race, which was won by another Helensburgh Scottish Squad member, Andrew Clegg. Yet another n ew name appeared on the results sheet for the fifth race, Scottish Squad member, Craig Paul, and finally Robin Paris secured the event with a first in the sixth race. Andrew Homer took the development fleet ahead of three Tarbert sailors competing in their first traveller.
