The flying Q capsizes in Sydney Harbour - images

Ian Oatley's Q, the radically designed Reichel/Pugh 42 day racer was a sensation on Sydney Harbour yesterday, before and after she capsized yesterday, after a keel malfunction.

She looked every part a weapon with her bulb in the air and it was a shame to see a simple problem with her very complex mechanism laid her on her side.

The crew in their bright orange shirts stood on the hull until CYCA race officers arrived to offer assistance.

Q was righted and towed back to the CYCA at Rushcutters Bay.

We wonder if James Bond will need to be on board for her next outing.

Seriously though, ten points for Ian Oatley for having a go at such a radical keel program.

His funding of Q will no doubt provide some interesting discoveries in the year ahead.

The one we really want answered is ... when a keel out of the water drops back in, how do you manage to avoid a handbrake turn?

Good on you guys!!
