The First Annual Beneteau Cup of Lake Michigan will be held as part of the Three Crib Fiasco on September 20, 2014. The Three Crib Fiasco is a sailing event on Chicago's Lakefront that looks to incorporate community, collaboration, camaraderie and most of all - fun! This year’s event has a charitable component to it, in that entry fees will support the Sea Scout Program.

The Beneteau Cup concept was started in San Diego by South Coast Yachts, the local Beneteau dealer as a way to bring non-racing sailors out on the water to learn a bit more about sailboat racing in a relaxed, fun environment. For 2014, select Beneteau dealers around the United States have expanded on the concept to host sailing events in Seattle, San Diego, Chicago and Chesapeake Bay.

'Part Regatta, Part Fun Time, The Three Crib Fiasco is a perfect venue to host the first Annual Beneteau Cup' said Karma Yacht Sales Co-Owner Lou Sandoval 'We invite all sailors-cruisers and die-hards alike, for a fun day of sailing and celebration of the sailing community in Chicago.'

The Beneteau Cup will be an 'event within an event,' allowing sailors to compete in Racing and cruising divisions inside of the pursuit-style Three Crib Fiasco. The race will use the standing nautical landmarks- Chicago’s Water Cribs as the main rounding marks in a 13.5 mile course.

All Beneteau entries will receive Beneteau Cup shirts and participant burgees, and will compete for the coveted overall Perpetual Beneteau Cup - based on the performance handicap race formula by race and cruising divisions.

'We hope this event will take on a life of its own turn into one of Chicago’s sailing traditions for years to come,' said Jack Buoscio from Karma Yacht Sales. 'It is a great way to bring people together and help grow the sport through the Sea Scouting programs.'

Registration has begun and can be completed here.
