The 2014 Six Metre British Open and European Championships open for registration today, Wednesday 16 July, and continue until Friday 25 July 2014. With some 27 boats already entered from across Europe and as far afield as the USA, Canada and Hong Kong, the event will have a truly international feel. The fleet will include divisions for both Modern and Classic Six Metres, each with their own start.

Hosted by the Royal Cornwall Yacht Club, racing for the British Open Championship will take place on Friday 18 and Saturday 19 July. There will be a rest/further registration day on Sunday 20 July and the European Championship will be raced from Monday 21 to Thursday 24 July with Friday 25 July being available as a reserve day should it be required.

The yachts will be based at Port Pendennis Marina and a special regatta village is being created for the event next to The National Maritime Museum Cornwall.

The Royal Cornwall Yacht Club's reputation for running major events is second to none and this, combined with the outstanding race area of Falmouth Bay, means the competitors can be assured of outstanding racing.

There will also be a full après sailing social programme including a welcome reception, championship dinner, prize giving and a very special birthday party for one of the yachts, of which more later.
