by Koru Match media on 9 Apr 2011
NZL Sailing Team: Womens Match Racing - Day 4 Palma 2011 - Koru Match went on to finish 5th overall. SW

The Koru Match Racing team has made a great start to their new 2012 Olympic campaign with a fifth placing the the ISAF World Cup event, in Palma Spain.

The crew only regrouped this season and have turned in a great results against a fleet of very experienced match racers

They report from Palma:

Hi to all our supporters,

Koru Match has been competing at the third ISAF World Cup in Palma.

Today the team finished in fifth place (4th country) after a solid day of racing.

It has been a great week of racing in Palma, Mallorca. The team has had perfect match racing weather almost all week, with relatively steady 5-15 knot sea breezes. The high level of competition has created plenty of close racing.

In the opening round, Koru Match finished third in their pool, putting the team into the repe-charge round to fight it out for the remaining two places in the quarter finals. There, five wins and one loss was enough to advance the team to the next round. In the quarter the girls were defeated 3-1 by USA (Anna, Debbie, Molly), however Koru Match was stoked to be the first team in the regatta to take a race off the USA girls. The team went on to finish strongly, winning their placing matches against GBR and FRA.

The team will now break for a few days before travelling to Hyere. The team have some training planned against the French to prepare for thei next ISAF World Cup event at the end of the month.

52 Super Series Porto Cervo practice race
The loss of the last 'dress rehearsal' is something of a disappointment Although there was just enough breeze to execute a couple of meaningful practice starts, the breeze dropped away and thereafter proved insufficient to allow the planned two short official practice races to be sailed today off Porto Cervo.

And so, it begins…
Grand Final not run yet, but our Hobart coverage begins with something very cool Maybe a tad earlier than last year, which I think was after the Grand Final, but the 100th entrant seemed like a good place to set things off. Now with that said, Sail-World's Hobart coverage begins.
