Sailing in his 34th Sydney to Hobart race, Lindsay May and his Love & War crew have crossed the finish line at 09:17am and they have won the 2006 Rolex Sydney to Hobart race on IRC handicap overall and have provisionally won the covetted Tattersalls Cup.

The other possible contenders still at sea, just cannot have any impact on the overall race result.

Marc Stuart's BSG 'On Tap'is 24 miles north east of Cape Sonnerat 115 miles from the finish and would have to race well above her hull speed to spoil the party.

John Walkers Impeccable is 17 miles south of Maria Island and would have to sail 64 miles in five hours to join the podium group.

Sean Langman's 30 footer Maluka is 20 miles east of Cape Sonnerat and is expected to finish around dawn tomorrow, she would have to speed towards the finish line at 10 knots to prevent Love & War taking the Tattersalls Cup.

Its all over, Love & War have won the 62nd Rolex Sydney to Hobart race.

Graeme Ainley and John Williams' Petersen 44 Bacardi finished at 8:19am and will be second on handicap.

Lou Abrahams will take third place in his 44th race.

Peter Kurts in 1973 commissioned Olin Stephens, the famous US naval architect to design Love & War, with noted timber boat-builder Cec Quilkey constructing her hull from cold moulded Oregon pine.

The Sparkman ans Stephen 47, won the Sydney Hobart in 1974 and 1978 and represented Australia at the Admiral’s Cup in England in 1975, and she again took victory in in the Sydneyu to Hobart race in 1978.
