Test Section of sift flap - Core Composites - AC45 construction 5 October 2010 Richard Gladwell

One of the features of the new AC45 yacht, designed as a trainer racer for the 34th America's Cup, is the wingsail. At the Core Composites building facility in Warkworth, 40 minutes north of Auckland, a mould is being built to produce the wingsails for the new one design.

Looking remarkably like something out of a model plane construction kit, the main spar male mould is being is being constructed in two halves, but will not be CNC milled like the hulls.

A more 'traditional' approach is being used to build the moulds. A small test section of 'soft' flap is also being constructed.
