Spectacular capsize series at Little Wheel Regatta

by Bernie Kaaks on 25 Jan 2014
2014 Little Wheel Regatta capsize Bernie Kaaks
Having earned his spot in the semi final of the Little Wheel Regatta, local match racer and world laser radial champion Tristan Brown took his BW8 upwind to test the conditions before the first race. When the crew popped up a kite for the run back to the starting area, the unexpected happened very quickly. (see photo sequence!)

Despite the distraction, Brown recovered to despatch his semi final opponent, two - zip.

Internationals Chris Poole (USA) and Chris Staub (NZL), who both entered this regatta to prepare for next week's Warren Jones Youth Match Racing Regatta, were involved in a three way tie for fourth place after the round robin stage. Poole was eliminated while Staub made the semis on a count back, only to be defeated two - nil by local rookie Matt Jerwood.

The finals are scheduled for today.

Footnote: Tristan and his crew re-grouped to win their best of three semi, two-zip!

Semi final results: Matt Jerwood (SoPYC, AUS) def Chris Staub (RAYC, NZL) 2 - 0
Tristan Brown (RFBYC, AUS) def Will Boulden (FSC, AUS) 2 - 0
