Oliver's Travels - sailing for his life round Britain

by Nancy Knudsen on 28 Jun 2011
Oliver on Jolly Olly SW

Oliver Rofix is literally sailing for his life around Britain.

As a young engineering student Oliver was struck down with Leukemia in 2005, but survived it after a lengthy battle and thanks to a bone marrow transplant donor.

Now he is half way through a circumnavigation of Britain in a Valiant 18 called Jolly Olly, recruiting more life-saving donors for the https://www.anthonynolanevents.org.uk!Anthony_Nolan_Trust.

Oliver set out on 28th March this year from Bermondsey in London, and at the time estimated that his journey would take eight months.

He has already sailed the east coast of England, from Inverness south west through the lochs of Scotland to Oban, and is now travelling south, having just reached Troon in South Ayreshire.

So far he has convinced 14 new donors to join his program, and his blog is full of the people he has met and the hospitality he has enjoyed. Everywhere he goes he never forgets he is on an awareness raising campaign for his cause.
