King takes on gangster for Swedish victory

by Bob Fisher on 6 Jul 2005
Fram XV, skippered by King Harald XV of Norway, crossed the finishing line of the Eurocard Gotland Runt, the first of the monohulls to cover the 362 nautical mile course.

The race is also the final one in the IMS European Championship in which Fram XV was in second place before this race.

It will need a near-miracle for the 53 foot Fram XV to win the race on corrected time, with the wind dying away until tomorrow morning, but the forecast for that is not in place, although the wind is softer than it was earlier in the day. The next IMS boat is expected here around midnight (Tuesday local time).

At the previous turning mark where the corrected times were calculated, Einar Sissener’s Al Capone III, a Grand Soleil 42R, was sufficiently well placed to win the championship.
